Church of Nigeria History
The rebirth of Christianity began with the arrival of Christian freed slaves in Nigeria in the middle of the nineteenth century. The Church Missionary Society established an evangelistic ministry, particularly in the south. The division of the Province of West Africa in 1979 formed the Province of Nigeria and the Province of West Africa. During the 1990s, nine missionary Bishops consecrated themselves to evangelism in northern Nigeria. Primate Metropolitan & Primate of all Nigeria & Bishop of Abuja The Most Revd Henry C. Ndukuba Archbishop Henry Ndukuba installed as new Primate of the Church of Nigeria. A low-key service has been held in Abuja to install the new Primate of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Archbishop Henry Ndukuba. Many of the events planned to mark the retirement of outgoing Archbishop Nicholas Okoh and welcome the new archbishop were suspended or postponed because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
