Opening Prayer: Help me dear Lord to meet with you as I meditate on your word in Jesus name
Scripture: Psalm 19:1‐14
Question(s) for Reflection
• What truth is God revealing to me in this passage?
Scripture Union Daily Guide 5 March 2022 MESSAGE
Read vs.1‐6 and try to enter the poetic imagery. An African proverb says lightning flashes to warn the deaf while thunder rumbles to warn the blind; but some people deliberately choose to be deaf and blind to God’s warnings.
The Scriptures reveal God to those who can read and, as Paul explains in Romans 1:20, creation itself reveals God clearly to all. Here we have a poet’s version of the same statement. Despite these, some people make a deliberate choice to shut their eyes and ears, wilfully refusing to acknowledge God as God!
Thus, God abandons them to the sort of wanton lusts that are becoming increasingly popular in our days. For those who respond appropriately to His self‐revelation, there is an entirely different meaning to the Law. Look closely at vs.7‐9. Each verse gives two qualities of the Law (e.g. v.7 ‐ it is perfect and trustworthy) and two things it does for us (refreshes the soul and makes the simple wise).
What similar lessons are there in vs.8 and 9? Notice the logic from vs.10‐12 why those who learn these lessons will not take bribes or harbour hatred or lust in their hearts?
Practice/Word Application
What Next? Sing the song “Oh Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder”, and reflect on its words.
