Scripture Union Daily Guide 12 April 2022 MESSAGE
In the hour of great trial, Peter denied knowing Jesus despite his promises. It is easy to claim Jesus as our Lord in the solitude of our living room and among like‐minded friends, but it can be hard to do so in a hostile environment. Afterward, Peter was so ashamed of his denials that he wept bitterly.
God knows the weakness of our humanity and how easily we could deny Him in a moment of crisis. Note the impact of Jesus’ eye contact on Peter (vs.61‐62). Jesus cares for us. How do you respond when the Holy Spirit convicts you of sin? Do you feel sorry and repent or do you find a way to justify yourself? Read Proverbs 28:13.
How great is God’s forgiveness! Peter might have expected that his failure would cause him to be rejected by Jesus. Instead, Jesus continued to use Peter who became a great apostle despite his human shortcomings. God uses ordinary people to do great things.
We do not have to be perfect to be used by Him. Although He knew the hypocrisy behind the questions of the religious leaders, Jesus confirms that He is the Son of God. He cannot and will not deny His identity (see 2 Tim 2:13).
• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
