Notice how God corrects His children (Deuteronomy 2:14-15). God allows Israel to wander in the desert for 38 years until the adult generation of unbelief and the best men of war, except Joshua and Caleb, pass away (Deuteronomy 1:34-36).
Now God will lead the generation of faith to conquer Canaan, and He asks the people to move to take the land.
How does God help the Israelites to conquer the land of the Amorites (Deuteronomy 2:24-25)? He uses a younger generation with no fighting experience to exterminate the land of Sihon (Deuteronomy 2:24-37). And a terrified king Heshbon and his cities were destroyed by inexperienced fighters because God was in the battle. Like Pharaoh (Exodus 4:21), the king of Sihon hardens his heart and refuses the request of Israel. And God gives His people victory.
God still uses the humble and the inexperienced to win over difficult circumstances. He wants us to depend on Him always (Deuteronomy 8:1-2). How can this truth help you in your own responsibilities?
REFLECTION
“…not one town was too strong for us”. What they achieved now, they would have, 38 years before if only they believed. What lessons are there for you?
