Scripture Union Daily Guide 10th August 2026 – OUTLINE

Following Jesus comes with a cost. Preservation of life is one of the basic human needs. Read again the first two sections (Psalms 119:145-160) and identify the various ways the Psalmist prayed for this. He knew that only God could do this for him. Today, many run about seeking help outside of God. But such help is no help eventually. Our only help comes from our merciful and righteous God who remains faithful to His word. To Him alone will we, His children, cry.

Note the Psalmist’s great life of devotion (Psalms 119:147-148). How many people today have such discipline in their lives? Early morning devotion has great benefit. Such a person knows the nearness of God (Psalms 119:151). The presence of God is so real that his life is a life of worship (Psalms 119:164). No wonder then he can enjoy great peace and protection (Psalms 119:165).

This devotion is not a mere routine or ritual. It is rooted in a life of obedience to God (Psalms 119:167-168). Yet there is no claim to self-righteousness (Psalms 119:176). His closing prayer is mainly to live and praise God (Psalms 119:171-172,175).
