TOPIC: Testimonies About Christ

OPENING PRAYER: Grant me depth of insight, revelation and knowledge as I meditate on this passage, O Lord.

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE: John 5:31-47

Question(s) for Reflection
• Q 1: What does the passage teach about God the Father, or God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
• Q2: Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?

DAILY GUIDE 16 JANUARY 2024 OUTLINE BELOW:

The Jewish leadership have consistently disputed the divinity of Jesus. Even though they have seen much evidence to confirm His claim, they continue to oppose Him, seeking every way possible to get rid of Him. The law demands the testimony of two or three (Deuteronomy 17:6) but note how many testimonies Jesus mentions in the passage. For John’s testimony see John 1:29-34; 3:26-36). For the other testimonies, see ‘For further study’ below.

Christ’s statement in vs.43-44 is perfectly true. There are many Christian leaders today who revel in the praise of their members. Many acquire one title upon another including “doctoral degrees” from so-called Bible Colleges and non-accredited universities and seminaries. Billboards carry larger-than-life photos of Rev. and Mrs. instead of that of Jesus and His cross. The revivalist no longer draws men to Jesus but to himself, the “Man of God”, the “miracle worker”. May we, like John the Baptist, seek to decrease as the Lord increases in our lives and ministries!

Practice/Word Application
And so? Reflect on v.39 again. Ask the Lord to reveal Himself to you as you read and study His word daily.

For Further Study
For further study: For other testimonies about Jesus: His works (Matthew 11:2-6 cf. Luke 4:18-19); God the Father (Matthew 3:16-17, 17:5); Scriptures (Matthew 2; Luke 24:27) and Moses (Deuteronomy 18:15)

• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Offer a prayer of faith in line with Psalms 112:1 ‐ 4
