Scripture Union Daily Guide 16 May 2022 MESSAGE
What constrained God to share His agenda against Sodom with Abraham (vs.17–19)? God would likely share His secrets with us if we are intimate with Him. God attested to Abraham’s responsible parenting. Notice what the discharge of his parental responsibility will result in (v.19). The challenge of bringing up godly children by Christian parents is laid before us.
How would God rate you as a Christian parent or guardian? Abraham’s qualities plus the unparalleled faith he had shown in God brought him into the highly confidential plan of God for Sodom and Gomorrah where Lot, Abraham’s nephew, was living. Abraham swung into action to intercede for the city. Possibly thinking his nephew might have positively impacted lives there, he pleaded for God to spare the city if only ten righteous men are found there. We will see later how Lot fared.
Many of our cities today freely allow the immoralities that Sodom and Gomorrah practised (v.20; see also Isaiah 3:9). We shall read more details about Sodom tomorrow. God looks out for intercessors like Abraham to avert His judgment on our nations (see Ezekiel 22:30). Can He depend on you?
• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
• Heavenly Father, please enable me to make a positive impact for you wherever I live.
