Topic: The Vilest Offender Who Truly Believes?

Opening Prayer: Dear Lord, make me more like you through the power of your word as I meditate on it.

Scripture: Luke 5:27‐39

Question(s) for Reflection
• What does the passage teach about God the Father, or God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
• Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?

Tax collectors belong to the group the Pharisees detest and consider ‘sinners’. To them Levi belongs to the group of people who are totally lost. This is because of their liaison with the Roman Government. They not only collect tax on their behalf but make their own heavy cut from their oppressive business. What must have led Jesus to choose such ‘reprobate’ as a disciple (vs.31‐32; cf. John 3:17‐18; Matthew 5:3). What can we learn from Levi’s method of evangelism (v.29)? The same Levi (Matthew) authored the first Gospel which was mainly addressed to the Jews. Note what Jesus said about fasting (vs.34‐35). To be truly effective in our ministry, we should create time for fasting combined with prayer. Read vs.36‐39 again. What happens if we try to fit the new life in Christ into the old mould of legalism? Some of our traditions cannot be mixed with Christianity. Can you think of any?

Practice/Word Application
And so? Christ receives anyone who comes to Him. Shouldn’t we do likewise? Pray for a humble spirit and a heart that loves and welcomes all.

Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Closing Prayer
• Dear Lord, help my heart to welcome and received all as you would do.

Offer a prayer of faith in line with Luke 9:1

PRAYER FOCUS
TRUE REPRESENTATION OF CHRIST
For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes… Romans 1:16

THANK GOD FOR:
› Making us the righteousness of God in Him. › The opportunity we have been given to be ambassadors of Christ.

PRAY FOR:
• Grace to be diligent as we daily present ourselves as workmen/women who will not bring shame to the name of Christ.

• Faith to continue to live the crucified lives and not give any occasion to the flesh.

• The help of God in our lives as we remain ambassadors of peace wherever we go.

PRAY AGAINST:
∷ Anything that will make us imitate the world and not the Christ whose name we bear. ∷ All forms of immoral acts, impurity or covetousness as they will defile and destroy all we are working for.
