COMMAND YOUR DAY
Thursday, January 4, 2024
TOPIC: Possess the Forgiving Spirit
Memory Verse: Eph. 4:32: “And be ye kind one to another, tender hearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you”.
Reading: Matthew 18:23-35; Ephesians 4:30-32.
If you want to be great in the eyes of God and man, allow God to remould you. Let God put in you a forgiving spirit. The forgiving spirit makes the difference between one who has Christ and another that has no Christ. The forgiving spirit is a spirit of mercy, and it keeps no malice, strife, revenge, or retaliation.
Jesus used the parable of the unmerciful servant (Matt. 18:23-35) to explain the evil of an unforgiving spirit. Compassion is in the man who has a forgiving spirit. He is a man of peace. He does not entertain lawsuits and hates quarrels. He is not the type who insists on claiming rights. He is ready to give up his right for the benefit of others. He returns good for evil and blessing for curses. In this way, he pulls down every wall of enmity while changing enemies to friends (Rom. 12:20).
Possess the forgiving spirit. The forgiving spirit knows what others do not know. He knows that when he sins, he needs the mercy of God to be forgiven. No one can progress in life without his or her sins forgiven. He also knows that when he forgives those who offend him here on earth, he shall receive a reward on the judgment day.
The Lord is speaking to you this morning, “Remember all those who have hurt you and forgive them. Forgive your husband or your wife. Forgive those who are owing you small debts so that God can forgive you for your huge debts.” Make this year your personal year of forgiveness so that you can live a life of well-being.
