Daily Guide 18th March 2025(Scripture Union) OUTLINE
These were the religious people of Jesus’ time who came to Jesus to test Him or find fault with His claim to be the Messiah (Matthew 16:1). They do not believe that He is God who came to save humanity from eternal destruction, yet they want to receive miracles or signs from Him.
Notice in Matthew 16:2-4, how Jesus described such people who do not want Him but want His miracles or signs and His warning in Matthew 16:4. The sign of the prophet Jonah signifies Christ’s death and resurrection on the third day (Matthew 12:39-40), which was to be the final sign of the promised Saviour.
Notice the Master’s warning in Matthew 16:6 and the reason the disciples misunderstood Him? What can we learn from this as we engage with the Scriptures individually or as a group (cf. 1 Corinthians 2:13-16)?
Review the five serious questions the Lord asked the undiscerning disciples in Matthew 16:8-11. If the same questions were posed in our specific context today, how would we answer?
Are we more concerned about what we shall eat, or do we give ourselves to understanding our Lord daily? Do we remember His past provisions and miraculous interventions in our affairs? What is He saying and what are we hearing today?
And So:
Be watchful over corrupted word of God. It kills.
* Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
Closing Prayer:
Lord Jesus, please save me from falling into the trap of falsehood and error.
