Scripture Union Daily Guide 13 June 2026 – OUTLINE
Following his resurrection and ascension, Jesus assures and prepares His followers for His glorious return (read Acts 1:9-11). The ‘waiting’ period is not specified, but it is not a passive one for the disciples either. What could they be doing then? The world will be running its activities as usual, eating, drinking, conducting marriages and business, farming, building houses, making investments to grow capital base for families, etc. (Luke 17:26-29). For those who have come to Him and are walking with Him, He has an assignment for the waiting period.
See this in Matthew 28:19-20. What lesson is there in Luke 17:30-31 regarding staying ready for the Lord’s return? Think of the implication of the sudden nature of His return like lightning. Time is passing, and opportunities with it for maximizing the teachings of the Master through obedience in active evangelism, preaching the gospel for the salvation of souls. Hence, we should heed Paul’s injunction in Romans 13:11-14; Ephesians 5:15-17.
And So
Study the ‘signs’ of His coming (Luke 17:23,32-37; 2 Timothy 3:1-5; Matthew 24:3-14) and be cautious!
Closing Prayer
Lord, help me to be watchful and prayerful, ready for your coming kingdom (Matthew 24:42).

Offer a prayer of faith in line with 2 Corinthians 12:9

•His faithfulness and loving kindness on all his children who are waiting and trusting in the Lord for spouses.
•Sustaining them in hope.
•His word which never fails.
•The miracle of answered prayers coming their way.
•Causing them to rejoice and everyone that shall see them will rejoice with them.
•Doing much more that we can think or imagine for them.
