Read The Upper Room Devotional 9th May 2025 written by Freddy Kaur (Harju County, Estonia)
TOPIC: The Prodigal Son
Today’s Reading
Luke 15:11-32
“This son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.” So they began to celebrate. – Luke 15:24 (NIV)
I grew up in a Christian family, went to Sunday school and church, and believed in God. After a move during my teenage years, I made new friends and my lifestyle changed. I left church and faith behind, but my mother and grandmother continued to pray for me.
For 16 years, my life was filled with alcohol, drugs, huge debts, and depression. Over time I realized that this kind of life was destroying me. I grew restless and longed for peace of mind, but I felt no sense of hope.
Even though I didn’t realize it at the time, God’s boundless grace and love, along with the prayers of my family, carried me. Finally, God took my hand and called me back to the path of faith. God freed me from all addictions and depression and gave me peace and a new spirit. God brought me together with other Christians who helped me come to know God again.
The seed of faith that was planted in my heart as a child remained deep inside me over the years. By God’s grace I have been saved and can now live a happy, faithful life, enjoying the peace and love offered by our Savior, Jesus Christ.
Today’s Prayer
Thank you, gracious God, for welcoming your lost children home. Thank you for your love and patience. Amen.
