Isaiah 49:14-18
Thus saith the Lord, “Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me.” – Isaiah 49:16 (KJV)
No matter their age, children who have been abandoned by a parent may struggle with feeling unloved. They may wonder how the person who should love them the most could leave them. As a child of divorce, raised by a single parent, I often wondered this myself. Even though I had one parent who loved me unconditionally and cared for me, I questioned why the other did not. Feelings of loneliness and unworthiness filled me. I felt alone in my sadness.
But today’s scripture from Isaiah changed my perspective and my life. It showed me that I was not the only person to harbor these feelings. And it reminded me that God will never forget me. I am written on the palms of God’s hands! This truth brings me peace beyond words.
Now I choose to be thankful for God’s unfailing love and for the people in my life who truly care about me. Life can be unfair; but when we recognize that God’s love for us is real and never-ending, our lives are changed in unimaginable ways. God is so good!
Today’s Prayer
Dear Lord, thank you for your love and for your promise never to leave us. Thank you for the people you have placed in our lives who show us your love. Amen.
Thought for the Day
