The Upper Room Daily Devotional 9 April 2022 MESSAGE
My family was celebrating the birth of our second child, a healthy baby boy. Then, in less than two weeks, we were fearful we were losing him after such a short time. At just 13 days old he contracted respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). My son was fighting for his life, and I was powerless to help him.
The first night that he was in pediatric intensive care we were not allowed to touch or hold him. I can clearly recall the turmoil I felt inside. I also clearly recall the soothing peace that I felt as our pastor and prayer group called. We took the moment to pray together, and that moment of prayer helped to ease my fear. We prayed that the peace and understanding the apostle Paul spoke of would guard our hearts. While the remainder of the time my son spent in the hospital before coming home would be difficult, our prayer on the first night helped ease our fears.
In moments of anxiety and fear it is easy to lose sight of God’s presence. But when we feel that life is spiraling out of control, we will find peace when we bring our struggle to God in prayer.
TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Lord, today we are afraid. But we know that in all things you are with us. Fill our hearts with your peace. Thank you for the care you have given us through the gift of Jesus Christ. In his name we pray. Amen.
