Waiting for God

When we wait in faith, we will see the goodness of God.
The Upper Room | 21 November 2021 Daily Devotional Message
My grandchildren live a continent away. When we are planning a visit, waiting to be reunited can seem to take an eternity for all of us. My daughter helps the children by marking off the number of sleeps left until they run down the airport ramp into my arms. Meanwhile, she calls their attention to the present by having them draw pictures, pack backpacks, and buy gifts. They are learning to trust that the big day will come in good time.
In Psalm 27, David assented to the goodness of God while waiting for vindication. He sought God, wanting the Lord to teach him and remain close to him. David maintained a sense of living in the present while looking toward a hopeful future. Scripture teaches that waiting is a time of expectation, drawing near to God, and gaining strength in the process.
The next time we find ourselves waiting with worry or impatience, we might ask: Where is God in this moment? What are the needs of those around me? What am I trying to control that is better left in God’s hands?

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Lord, thank you for your patience with us when we wait with worry and frustration. Help us to draw strength and courage from you as we wait on your word. Amen.
