TOPIC: Finish It Later

TODAY’S READING
Ephesians 2:4-10

KEY VERSE: When he had received the sour wine, Jesus said, “It is completed.” Bowing his head, he gave up his life. – John 19:30 (CEB)

MESSAGE: I often find myself putting off housework and other chores. Even though I am aware of my tendency to procrastinate, I still often find myself with a sink full of dishes left over from the day before. I know that I can do better than this, but I never seem to improve. As a result, I have deep anxiety about how my friends might judge me. What if they drop in unexpectedly? Worse yet, what if I die suddenly when everything is a mess?

Sometimes I suffer the same sort of anxiety about my relationship with God. Will I be prepared when I meet God face to face? What have I left undone? Have I been good enough? How will God judge my time on earth?

When I experience this kind of spiritual panic, I remind myself that my relationship with God is not like my relationship with housework. Housework is never really finished. In contrast, Jesus left nothing undone when he did his work on the cross. Because I choose to believe in and follow Christ, my sins are erased. There is nothing more I need to do.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Thank you, Lord Jesus, for the salvation you freely give. Help us to trust you, love you, and serve you. Reassure us of how secure we are in you. In your name, we pray. Amen.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
I will rest secure in my faith today.

PRAYER FOCUS
Christians questioning their faith
