SCRIPTURE UNION DAILY GUIDE FOR TODAY 13 MARCH 2024, WEDNESDAY DEVOTIONAL READING

Scripture Union Daily Guide For Today 13 March 2024 TOPIC:Jesus Promised To Send The Counsellor!

OPENING PRAYER: Dear Lord, may the entrance of your word bring light and life to all I will do today.

READ: John 16:1-11

1 These things have I spoken unto you, that ye should not be offended.

2 They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service.

3 And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the Father, nor me.

4 But these things have I told you, that when the time shall come, ye may remember that I told you of them. And these things I said not unto you at the beginning, because I was with you.

5 But now I go my way to him that sent me; and none of you asketh me, Whither goest thou?

6 But because I have said these things unto you, sorrow hath filled your heart.

7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.

8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:

9 Of sin, because they believe not on me;

10 Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more;

11 Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.

Question(s) for Reflection
• Q 1: What does the passage teach about God the Father, or God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
• Q7: What truth is God revealing to me in this passage?

Scripture Union Daily Guide For Today 13 March 2023 OUTLINE:

Jesus continues His discussion about the coming persecution to equip His disciples with adequate information so that they may not fall away when it comes (vs.1-4). Jesus warned that they will suffer persecution from religious people with misguided zeal, like Saul (Acts 9:1-2). They will think they are serving God by persecuting believers. Can you think of any example of such in your context?

In vs.5-11, notice the place Jesus was going and the conceivable benefits of His departure? Jesus promised that the Holy Spirit would come after He returned to His Father and He will bring some of these benefits:

1. While Christ could be in only one place at a time, the Holy Spirit would be available for believers everywhere.
2. He will accompany the disciples as they venture out to different parts of the world.
3. The Holy Spirit, the Counsellor, will minister to the world in three ways. Note these in vs.8-11 and consider how this knowledge should impact the way we share the gospel message.

The “Counsellor” has come (Acts 2:1-4). How much are you benefiting from His ministry and allowing Him to use you to reach the world?

• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

CLOSING PRAYER
Thank you, Holy Spirit, for being my Counsellor. Help me to be more yielded to you, so you can use me for your glory.

Offer a prayer of faith in line with Psalms 27:5
