Scripture Union Daily Guide August 13, 2023 Outline:
Read vs.3-6 again and notice the consequence of king Hoshea’s unfaithfulness to the king of Assyria. He broke the promise to serve Assyria and pay annual tribute to the king. On the surface, the reason for the end of the Northern Kingdom is the defeat by the more powerful and ruthless Assyrians. However, the writer rightly believes otherwise.
The nation of Israel has been going down for many years, even right from its inception. God chose Jeroboam I and made him king over the ten tribes. He however decided to forsake the Lord and led the nation in the direction of idolatry (1 Kings13:25-33). Virtually all the kings after him have gone in that direction, growing from bad to worse. God sent many prophets, including Elijah and Elisha who tried to save the nation from perdition (v.13) but notice their response (vs.14-17). God is a just God. The soul that sins shall die (Ezekiel 18:4). The Israelites repeated the error of the Canaanites and like the Canaanites, they were driven out of their land and dispersed into foreign land. That, unfortunately, was the end of the Northern Kingdom.

►More cordial relationships between them and their RCs and Regional Committees.
