Scripture Union Daily Guide – 17 November 2024 Outline
Daniel, through his reading and study of the scriptures, came to know that the desolation of Jerusalem will last for seventy years (v.2 cf., Jeremiah.25:11-12). Notice his immediate reaction (v.3). The place of scripture and prayer in the life of a believer cannot be over-emphasized. We must read and study the scriptures to know God’s truth for our lives; and then, through prayer to internalize the truth we have learnt. Do you always respond to scriptural truth with prayer?
Vs.4-19 reveal the content of Daniel’s prayer. Read through it again and take note of the following:
1.Daniel’s confession about God (vs.4,7,9,12,14).
2.Daniel’s confession about the sins of his people including himself (vs.5-6,7-8,9-11, 13).
3.Daniel’s request from God (vs.16, 17-19).
The way Daniel prayed teaches us how to pray. Understanding and confessing who God is and what He can do helps us to have confidence in Him. Being open and frank with our sins and confessing them before God, helps us to receive His mercy and forgiveness. Is that what you do when you pray for yourself and for others?
Practice/Word Application
And so? For scripture to come alive in your life and find fulfilment, do not just claim it, make it a matter of prayer. Internalize it through prayer.

Hail to the Lord’s Anointed
1. Hail to the Lord’s Anointed,
great David’s greater Son!
Hail in the time appointed,
his reign on earth begun!
He comes to break oppression,
to set the captive free;
to take away transgression,
and rule in equity.
2. He comes with succor speedy
to those who suffer wrong;
to help the poor and needy,
and bid the weak be strong;
to give them songs for sighing,
their darkness turn to light,
whose souls, condemned and dying,
are precious in his sight.
3. He shall come down like showers
upon the fruitful earth;
love, joy, and hope, like flowers,
spring in his path to birth.
Before him on the mountains,
shall peace, the herald, go,
and righteousness, in fountains,
from hill to valley flow.
4. To him shall prayer unceasing
and daily vows ascend;
his kingdom still increasing,
a kingdom without end.
The tide of time shall never
his covenant remove;
his name shall stand forever;
that name to us is love.
Offer a prayer of faith in line with 2 Timothy 4:18
“And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.”
