Opening Prayer: Oh Lord, grant me divine guidance as I read and meditate on your word in Jesus name.
Scripture: Acts 11:1-18
Question(s) for Reflection
• Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
• Is there any command for me to obey?
Peter was a Jew and a great apostle of our Lord Jesus Christ. In yesterday’s reading, we saw how God sent him to Cornelius, a Gentile. But now, his good works and ministry came under attack. Notice those who criticized Peter’s ministry and the allegation they brought against him (vs.1-3)? Some people may oppose our ministry not necessarily because they hate us but because they need some explanation for our actions. Ignorance of what the Spirit of God is doing along the path of the Word of God can make a believer resist God unknowingly.
We should invest our lives heavily to read and meditate on the Word of God if we want to understand God and what He is doing. Read vs.4-17 and notice how Peter, the leader of God’s people, handled the criticism. Even when Peter’s action was guided by the Scriptures (v.16), he humbly held himself accountable to the brethren. This is a good example for leaders to reduce quarrels and maintain peace in the body (v.18). Also, listening servant leaders sometimes can effect changes as a result of feedback coming from the people (Acts 6:1-7). Notice how Peter concluded his response and the effect it had on his critics (v. 17 – 18).
Practice/Word Application
• And so: Be a listening and accountable servant leader who leads along the path of God’s Word.
• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
Closing Prayer
• Father give me a quiet and humble spirit in my relationship with other Christians.
• Pray that the various efforts at communicating the gospel of Christ will yield immense results in the souls to be won.
Offer a prayer of faith in line with Isaiah 26:3; Ezek. 45-46; John 19:23-42
