In Nazareth where Jesus grew up, the people recognized the gracious words from Him but they lacked the faith to key into the blessings that His ministry brought. Why (Luke 4:23-24; cf. Matthew 13:54-58)? When one becomes too familiar with a minister of God, it could hinder such a person from stepping into the power of God through such an instrument. In fact, it is true that familiarity breeds contempt.
What did the two examples that Jesus gave tell us about the Israelites? Foreigners were the beneficiaries of God’s grace as they trusted in the prophets of God of Israel and received their miracles (Luke 4:25-27).
Why did the people who spoke so well of Jesus turn against Him to the point of trying to kill Him (Luke 4:28-29)? What does Luke 4:30 reveal to you about Jesus?

In these last days, when the love of many Christians is growing cold, and apostasy is increasing, what manner of person is God expecting you to be?
