Scripture Union Daily Guide 23 June 2026 | OUTLINE
Notice that at the time when kings went out to war, David, the warrior who normally led his men to war, stayed behind in Jerusalem (2 Samuel 11:1). All that we see playing out in our passage today was as a result of David’s careless decision to stay at home when he should have been at the battle front. We need to be in the right place at the right time.
Read 2 Samuel 11:2-4 again and identify 5 steps David took to get Bathsheba (compare Genesis 3:6-10; Exodus 20:17; Matthew 5:27-28). What creative measures can we take as men and women to curb the alarming rate of sexual and gender-based violence in our generation? See Job 31:1; Psalms 119:9,11 & Proverbs 4:23,25-27.
David wanted to put Bathsheba’s pregnancy on her husband and so hide his sin (2 Samuel 11:6-13); but reflect on Uriah’s reason for not going home to his wife (2 Samuel 11:11). What a disciplined and dedicated soldier! How loyal and consecrated are we to Christ our Master in the fierce battle against the flesh (sinful nature), the world and Satan?
Closing Prayer
“Guide me, O Thou Great Jehovah, Pilgrim through this barren land; I am weak, but Thou art mighty; Hold me with Thy powerful hand.”
Prayer of Faith
Offer a prayer of faith in line with Joshua 1:9
One Year Bible Reading Plan
1 Kings 12-14
