There are times when we find ourselves as David did. Can you identify at least four troubles he faced in vs.1-4, 7-12? In plain language instead of the metaphors David uses, what are the equivalence of such troubles in our day? The Lord Jesus alerts us: “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world” (John 16:33).
David does not allow the troubles he faces to drive him away from God. Instead, he draws near to God in prayer for help (vs.13-16). In times of difficulties, we must turn to God, not away from Him. Notice in vs.6, 10-12, the sacrifices he makes in order to travail in prayer.
In his cry for help, David stands on his knowledge of God. What attributes does he acknowledge about God that gives him the confidence to pray (vs.13, 16)? When Job was in torment, he declared, “I know that my redeemer lives . . .!” (Job 19:25). What do you know about God that should give you the confidence to cry out to Him for help? See 1 Corinthians 10:13.
John quotes v. 9 as a fulfilment of Jesus’ action in the temple to purge it of corrupt practices (John 2:17). May our zeal for the Lord consume us!

Turn vs.6, 14-18 into an intercessory prayer for yourself and others.
Offer a prayer of faith in line with Psalms 115:11
“Ye that fear the LORD, trust in the LORD: he is their help and their shield.”

THANK GOD FOR:

PRAY FOR:
• The dominion of violence, tribalism and nepotism be taken away and consumed forever in Nigeria.
• Ask God to deploy his very strong angels to bring down all human and demonic agents sustaining the oppressive siege over Nigeria.
• Invite God as the Lord to come and execute his strange, awesome and unusual acts against the enemies of His purpose in Nigeria.
• Proclaim an end to the mindless looting and pillaging of the God-given enormous resources of this great Nation.
PRAY AGAINST:
• The spirit of materialism which makes our leaders loot our treasuries dry.
