TOPIC: The Jews Also Need God’s Salvation

OPENING PRAYER:  Dear Lord, may the entrance of your word bring light and life to all I will do today.

SCRIPTURE: ROMANS 2:17-29

QUESTION FOR REFLECTION
• Q 7: What truth is God revealing to me in this passage?

MESSAGE: The Jews are God’s covenant people through Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Most often, self-righteous Jews boast of their relationship with God and look down on non-Jews as sinners. Identify some of the things the Jews consider as assets in their relationship with God (vs.17-20). The word “if” (vs.17,18,19) casts doubts on their profession. Why? Christians are guilty of the same thing today when we profess to be God’s people but live contrary to His Word.

Read vs.25-29 again; circumcision was the physical evidence of Israel’s covenant relationship with God (Genesis 17:10-12). The Jews had come to take it as guarantee of God’s favour. A man who is not circumcised is regarded as having no covenant relationship with God and excluded from the commonwealth of Israel. What was Paul’s view about this (vs.28-29)?

The truth of our relationship with God as Christians today is not in circumcision or following church ordinances or anything else, but in accepting Christ’s offer of salvation and obeying His word. Our lifestyle must always agree with our profession of faith.

► Making a practice of sin or lawlessness.
► Failing to draw near to God daily with spiritually cleansed hands.
