TOPIC: Holistic Approach To Mission
Opening Prayer: Lord, I pray that you lead me into your truth as I meditate on your word in Jesus name.
Scripture: Matthew 9:27-38
Question(s) for Reflection
• What does the passage teach about God the Father, God the Son or God the Holy Spirit? • Is there any command for me to obey?
Read vs.27-28 again. Identify the issue and the steps the victims took to resolve it. Notice Jesus’ question and their response in v. 28. What challenge are you currently facing? You too can take this to Jesus. He will help you (vs.29-30). Why would the Lord order these men not to tell anyone (v.31)? But they did. He tells us to tell everyone about Him, but we tell no one. Who is more disobedient (vs.35-38)?
Notice in v.35 Jesus’s response to the Pharisee’s insinuations (v.34). Instead of spending all our time ruminating on people’s subjective comments about us, let us just move on with the work (cf. 1 Peter 2:23). An adage states, “If you stop every time a dog barks, your journey will never end.”
We must not allow others to be our roadblocks, but rather make them our building blocks. Read vs.35-38 (cf. Isaiah 61:1-3) and note again that mission involves meeting physical or material needs (vs.27-34) as well as compassionate response to spiritual needs (v.36). Does v.37 challenge you to pursue mission?
Remember, God is looking not for our ability but availability. So, let us obey the instruction in v.38, even as we also make ourselves available for the harvest.
• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
Closing Prayer
• Lord, as I share my testimonies, help me impact others to follow you and receive your blessings. • Pray that God will protect Christians against hostile governments.
Offer a prayer of faith in line with
• Isa. 34-36; Mark 9:1-29
