Review the various testimonies John the Baptist gave about Jesus (Luke 3:16; John 1:29‐35; 3:22‐36). In addition, his parents must have shared their experiences prior to his birth with him. Is it not strange that such a man would ever exercise doubt? What do you think must have accounted for this? Possibly the same stumbling block all Jews encountered, false understanding of the purpose of Christ’s coming.
John was ‘wasting away’ in prison, yet Jesus, the Messiah, has failed to come to his rescue. Like the two disciples on the road to Emmaus, ‘we had hoped that He was the one to redeem Israel’ (Luke 24:21). If a man like John could exercise doubt, are we exempted? Instead of wallowing in depression, John took the right step. He sought for the truth from Jesus.
Notice the way Jesus Christ dealt with his doubts (v.22); He referred John to what Scripture has said about Him and His ministry. When they report the miracles they have seen Him performed, Jesus expected John to link this with the prophecy of Isaiah concerning the Messiah (see Isaiah 29:18 and 35:5‐6).
When we too are in doubt, we should do exactly what John the Baptist did; ask Jesus Christ to reveal the truth to us in His word.

• Thank you, Lord Jesus, that I can come to you with all my doubts and find the answers for my soul.

PRAY FOR:
• Grace to continue to perform our vows to the Lord for the rest of our lives. • Strength and spiritual fervency for the coming month. • Provisions for yourself, family, fellowship and the entire church of God.
PRAY AGAINST:
∷ Any distraction to our nation, family and the entire church of God. ∷ Carrying our burdens over to February instead of casting them upon the Lord while we go home rejoicing.
