Scripture Union Daily Guide 27 September 2021
Scripture Union Daily Guide 27 September 2021 Monday Message

Topic: Be Separated

Opening Prayer: As I read through this passage dear Lord, let your word bring transformation to my life.

Scripture: Ezekiel 23:1-21

Question(s) for Reflection
• Is there any warning for me to heed?

• What is God revealing to me in this passage?

Ezekiel uses sexual imagery and repulsive language to describe the political sins of the Northern Kingdom (Oholah) and the Southern Kingdom (Oholibah). In vs.5-10, the sins of the Northern Kingdom are graphically described. She sought political alliance with Assyria instead of relying on God for security (see 2 Kings 16:7-9).

Note in v.7 what resulted from this alliance (see 2 Kings 16:10-18). In vs.11-20, highlight the gravity of the sins of Judah, the Southern Kingdom. Despite seeing what befell her sister, Judah was more sinful in seeking political alliances. She made alliances with Assyria and Babylon. Like her sister, Judah paid heavily for these alliances. We must learn from the experiences of these two cities. They failed to respond to God’s warning against these practices (See Deuteronomy 7:2-6).

When the horse in front falls into a ditch, the one behind learns a lesson from that incident (African adage). Unfortunately, we humans appear not to be as wise as horses. Do we take God’s warnings seriously (see 2 Corinthians 6:14-18)? Do we learn from the fall of those who have gone before us?

Practice/Word Application
• So what? We need to be distinct in what we do and learn never to frustrate God’s love by making unholy alliances (1 John 2:15-17).

• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Closing Prayer
• Help me, dear Lord, to obey your words, knowing that you do not change.

• Thank God and pray for Scripture Union (SU), Children Evangelism Ministry (CEM) and other specialized ministries to Children and youths.

Offer a prayer of faith in line with Proverbs 18:10; Ezek. 18-19; John 12:1-26
