OPENING PRAYER: Dear Lord, make me more like you through the power of your word as I meditate on it.

Compare the friends in this parable with God and us. Bear in mind the prayer, “Give us this day our daily bread.” ? v.5: The request is from one friend to another, but our request is to God. ? v.6: The request is on behalf of an unknown stranger, ours is from a child to a caring Father. ? v.7:
The request is to a friend who is asleep, but ours is to the One who is always awake and alert to our needs. ? v.8: The friend answers because he wanted to be left at peace, God answers because of His love for us. ? v.8: The friend gives what is temporary and only for the body. God gives what is spiritual and for eternity.
Take another look at vs.11‐13. Unlike God, even the best parents are sinful people. In spite of that, they do not answer their children’s requests by harming them. Rather, they do their best to give good things. God does not merely give us things. He gives Himself, (John 15:13)! What promises are there for us in vs.9‐10 and 13b?

And so? Ask and it shall be given unto you. Seek and you shall find. Knock and the door shall be opened unto you. Hallelujah.
