Scripture Union Daily Guide 26 August 2022 Devotional for Friday

TOPIC: Worthy to Break The Seals on This Scroll

OPENING PRAYER: Oh Lord, fill me with the power of the Holy Ghost as I study your word.

SCRIPTURE: Revelation 5:1‐14

Scripture Union Daily Guide 26 August 2022 MESSAGE

It is important to read Revelation 4 and 5 together as the opening to what John saw through the “door open(ed) in heaven”. Here he sees again, “the One who was sitting on the throne” (v.1), with a seven‐seal scroll in his right hand. Read vs.5‐7 and note the descriptions of the Lamb of God. Meditate on the contrasting descriptions ‐ Lion and Lamb, descendant of David (from the tribe of Judah) yet David’s Root, slain (v.9) yet alive.

He had horns and eyes that represent the sevenfold Spirit of God (the Holy Spirit). He was able to go up to the one seated on the throne to take the scroll. The four living creatures and the twenty‐four elders fell down before the Lamb and worshipped Him (v.8).

The uniqueness of Jesus in the salvation of mankind is the primary focus here. Because of what Jesus has done for our ransom (v.9), we have the challenge to ‘witness’ among “every tribe, language, people and nation”. Because of who He is, we must fall down and ‘worship Him’ (v.14). He is worthy of worship because of who He is (vs.5‐7), where He is (v.6), what He does (vs.8‐10) and because of what He has (vs.11‐14).

Question(s) for Reflection
• What does the passage teach about God the Father, or God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?

Practice/Word Application
Thought: How does your worship of Jesus influence your witness about Him?

• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

• Read out vs.9‐14 again aloud as your devotional praise and prayer.
