Go back and read the first 6 verses of the chapter. When Jesus Christ sent out these same disciples two by two to proclaim the Good News of the Kingdom, He had given them “power and authority” to drive out all demons and to cure diseases, (v.1). That was exactly what they did at the time, (v.6).
What was different now? Why could they not heal this demon‐possessed child, (v.40)? When we too pray, thank God, some are healed, but why is it that many are not healed? Sometimes it is the fault of the people for lacking the faith to be healed, (e.g. Matthew 13:58).
In this instance, Jesus gave a different reason in v.41. He rebuked the disciples as “you unbelieving and perverse generation”. This shows that the faithlessness of the disciples were to blame. It is important, therefore, not to lay the blame only on the faithlessness of the victim.

In Mark 9:29, we have another reason, when Jesus Christ recommended “prayer and fasting” (NKJV). However, sometimes, for reasons we do not understand, God chooses not to heal sick people, (e.g. the multitude in John 5:3).

THANK GOD FOR:
› His constant assurance of being with us and His promise to strengthen us and help us.
› The Lord who has been the strength of our SU youths in this time of Socio‐psychological and emotional stress.
PRAY FOR:
› Grace for them to continue to grow and renew their strength despite the distractions of the world.
› Encouragement from God and mature brethren as we interact with them in our families, church and fellowship.
› Deliberately planning programmers that will uplift them and their faith.
PRAY AGAINST:
∷ Falling away of our SU youths due to the recession the world is undergoing.
∷ Their failing to look to God for help and mature brethren in the fellowship for counseling.
