Scripture Union Daily Guide 20 April 2020 – The Consequences of sin
Outline: How did God show his sovereignty and universal dominion over Israel in vv.26–29? God removed the city from his sight as judgment for their sin. Sin will always cause us trouble and sorrow (Proverbs 14:34) but we do not need to get to such an extent before we learn our lessons. Remembering that our God is omnipotent, who can do just what he wants, will help us not to doubt his words but heed his warnings.
Read vv.32–35 again and identify the people involved in the evils that provoked God to anger and what they did. In what ways are we also doing similar things today? Let us check ourselves, repent and live godly lives as God desires of us (2 Timothy 2:19). What can learn about God’s character from vv.36–44? It is such good news that in the midst of judgment, God also announced his plan to restore the righteous among the Israelites.
Our God is compassionate and merciful. He is ever ready to cleanse and restore us and to make us new creatures in Christ, whenever we turn to him in faith and repentance.
