Scripture Reading
Hebrews 11:1-7
1 Now faith is the [a]substance of things hoped for, the [b]evidence of things not seen. 2 For by it the elders obtained a good testimony.
3 By faith we understand that the [c]worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.
4 By faith Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, through which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts; and through it he being dead still speaks.
5 By faith Enoch was taken away so that he did not see death, “and was not found, because God had taken him”; for before he was taken he had this testimony, that he pleased God. 6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.
7 By faith Noah, being divinely warned of things not yet seen, moved with godly fear, prepared an ark for the saving of his household, by which he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness which is according to faith.
Meditation Question
► Q2: Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
Scripture Union Daily Guide – 19 November 2025 | OUTLINE
Faith, to a Christian, is what foundation is to a house. Our salvation and relationship with God stand on it. Faith enables us to understand what God did in the past, and believe that the things recorded in His word, for our salvation, are true. Faith helps us to see what others cannot see and to take the right action (Hebrews 11:7). So, we can do things that others will not try.
How does Hebrews 11:3 help to build our faith in God? God is a Spirit and His dealings may not appeal to common sense and empirical realities, but they are true. Without faith, we cannot enjoy the benefits of those spiritual realities. Read Hebrews 11:4-7 again and identify the element of faith in the life of each hero of our faith.
Sacrifice (Hebrews 11:4), pleasing God and living righteously in a polluted world (Hebrews 11:5), as well as doing what God said when every factor looks contrary (Hebrews 11:7) require faith.
Why is it necessary to have faith to please God (Hebrews 11:6)? Everything we do must be by faith; otherwise, it will not be accepted by God.
