• What does the passage teach about God the Father, or God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
Scripture Union Daily Guide 19 February 2022 MESSAGE
We noted yesterday how Moses predicted that God would send a Deliverer to Israel, (Deuteronomy 18:15).
Today, we see how God gave him an amazing privilege, along with a leading figure among the prophets of old. They met that Deliverer face to face, and three of the disciples were there as witnesses of the occasion. See how it lingered with Peter in 2 Peter 1:16‐17.
Notice the main theme of the encounter (v.31)? This visit would have brought great comfort and emotional support to Jesus as he prepared for the path of greatest suffering that was so imminent. We must learn to allow God to use us as channels of his timely support to those who need such encouragement.
We read yesterday a puzzling prophecy by Jesus Christ Himself, that some of His disciples would live to see the coming of Kingdom of God. What they experienced here is a fulfilment of that prophecy, at least in part, as they saw these two departed saints in their resurrection glory, along with Jesus Christ in His divine brilliance, (vs.29‐30).
For the second time in His earthly life, God the Father affirmed Jesus Christ as His Son for the world to hear, (v.35; Luke 3:22).
