Scripture Union Daily Guide 18 July 2024 – MESSAGE
The underlying principle for the rules and practices is to love God with all our hearts, and our neighbours as ourselves. Jesus called these the greatest commandments of all (Matthew 22:34-40). Our love and respect for God and others will keep us from doing anything that may dishonour or harm them.
It may be difficult to find the reasons for some of the rules given to the people. For instance, how do we explain v.23? However, vs.26-31 were all practices of the Canaanites and related to their idol worship. As God’s holy people, He demanded that the Israelites should not act like these ungodly people in any area of life (Leviticus 18:3-4). Are some of these things found in the church today? To consult fortune tellers, use spells and charms to cure diseases, etc., is an intolerable affront to the Lord Jesus, a support of paganism and idolatry. This is not the gospel we believe!
We must be careful not to put ourselves in any bondage with damming consequence. We must have regard for the aged and the alien. God honours them; we must remember and be kind to them (vs.32, 33).
We are to observe God’s statutes with great care and consideration (v.37). We are not saved by obeying these laws, i.e., doing good works. Salvation is by grace alone, but we are saved to do good works (Ephesians 2:8-10)

CLOSING PRAYER
Lord Jesus, may you guide me daily to be conscious of keeping your commandments.
Offer a prayer of faith in line with Judges 6:23

THANK GOD FOR:
‣ The Council which is the highest decision and policy making body of SU Nig.
‣ The wisdom given to Council under God to give direction to Scripture Union Nig.
‣ Grace given to all Council members to come from far and near to attend meetings.
PRAY FOR:
‣ Every Council member to understand the purpose of their calling and be committed to it.
‣ Internal peace for every member, so that we will be able to fulfil our calling acceptably before God.
PRAY AGAINST:
‣ Making any decision or policy that will derail SU Nigeria in fulfilling her divine mandate.
