The Daily Fountain Devotional of the Church Of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) 18 July 2024

TOPIC: Avoid Drinking Alcoholic Drinks

TEXT: Genesis 19: 30-38(AMP)
19:30. And Lot went up out of Zoar and dwelt in the mountain, and his two daughters with him, for he feared to dwell in Zoar; and he lived in a cave, he and his two daughters.
19:31. The elder said to the younger, Our father is aging, and there is not a man on earth to live with us in the customary way.

19:32. Come, let us make our father drunk with wine, and we will lie with him, so that we may preserve offspring (our race) through our father.
19:33. And they made their father drunk with wine that night, and the older went in and lay with her father; and he was not aware of it when she lay down or when she arose.

19:34. Then the next day the firstborn said to the younger, See here, I lay last night with my father; let us make him drunk with wine tonight also, and then you go in and lie with him, so that we may preserve offspring (our race) through our father.

19:35. And they made their father drunk with wine again that night, and the younger arose and lay with him; and he was not aware of it when she lay down or when she arose.
19:36. Thus both the daughters of Lot were with child by their father.

19:37. The older bore a son, and named him Moab [of a father]; he is the father of the Moabites to this day.
19:38. The younger also bore a son and named him Ben-ammi [son of my people]; he is the father of the Ammonites to this day.

Anglican Daily Fountain Devotional 18 July 2024 – MESSAGE

STUDY: After Sodom’s destruction, Lot and his two daughters left Zoar and dwelt in a cave in the mountains. This was because he felt insecure in Zoar.

On a conspiracy led by his elder daughter, Lot was made drunk with wine on two different occasions and both daughters became pregnant after having sex with him on two consecutive nights. Lot was so drunk with wine that he did not know when the incest occurred. The Bible warns us not to look on wine when it is red and sparkles in the cup (Prov. 23: 31).

Christians are also divinely commanded not to be drunk with wine but to be filled with the Holy Spirit (Eph. 5: 18). If Lot did not drink wine, would his daughters have committed incest with him?Avoid drinking wine with any level of alcohol, otherwise you wil1 be deceived like Lot (Prov. 20: 1).

Many family quarrels, disagreements, divorces and separations can be traced to the use of alcoholic wine. Ask God to fill you with his Holy Spirit today so that you will do exploits for him. Don’t conspire to do evil!

PRAYER: Grant me the grace to avoid drinking wine and may I be filled with your Spirit O Lord!

THOUGHT FOR TODAY: God says “Do not be sad, for My joy is your strength. Nehemiah 8:10”
