Scripture Union Daily Guide 17th March 2023 MESSAGE

This time it was Jesus who asked the law experts a question. Previously it was Jewish leaders who had been questioning the authority of Jesus. It was accepted that the Messiah was the Son of David and if He was his son, then why did David in Psalm 110:1 call him Lord? Jesus is seeking to establish His identity as the Messiah. Although He was a descendant of David, He was much greater than David. He was, in reality, David’s Lord and God in the flesh through His incarnation. Jesus was fully man and fully divine. By using the word Lord, Jesus was trying to turn the thoughts of the Jews of His day from seeing the Messiah as conquering warrior who had come to restore an earthly kingdom.

In these days of long titles and veneration of church leaders, what can we learn from the warnings of our Lord in vs.38-40?
“The Widow’s Mite” (vs.41-44) is one of the most misunderstood stories in the Bible. The widow’s offering was not in its monetary value but its totality. She “put in everything – all she had to live on!” Is that reflected in your giving?

• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
