Opening prayer: Help me dear Lord to meet with you as I meditate on your word in Jesus name
Scripture: Ephesians 6: 10-24
Question(s) for Reflection
• What does the passage teach about God the Father, God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
• What is God revealing to me in this passage?
The reality of spiritual warfare is not a fable or a denominational issue or belief. It is not a matter of what I think, believe or do not believe. Satan will get you cheaply if he succeeds in deceiving you to believe he does not exist or that he is all powerful. No doubt, the Christian life is a contest, a battle and a warfare, hence the admonition in vs.10-12. Read it again.
As Christians, we must prepare for battle. Our battle is not against that man or woman, so don’t pray for their death. We are fighting against unseen spiritual forces. We cannot fight them with guns and machete. Read and note the commands and our armours which include both defensive and offensive weapons in vs.13-18 (cf., 2 Corinthians 10:3-7a).
The Good News is that the Captain of our warfare has won the battle. He has also provided weapons/resources to protect every vital part of our body, spirit and soul so we can claim the victory. However, note there is no covering for our back, so we are not to turn our back to our enemy.
We also have the “sword of the Spirit” for the attack. Note the themes of redemption, holy living and gospel proclamation as we repel the attacks of the enemy of our soul. God provides the equipment, but it is our duty to put it all on. Note how effective and powerful our weapons are when we rightly employ them (2 Cor. 10: 3 – 6).
Practice/Word Application
• Thought: Turning back is not an option. The whole armour has nothing to protect the back!
• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
Closing Prayer
• And so: Use 2 Corinthians 10:3-6 to pray and be vigilant (1 Peter 5:8).
• Thank God for the suffering, death and resurrection
Offer a prayer of faith in line with Isaiah 12:2; Josh. 16-18; Luke 17:20-37
