SCRIPTURE: Acts 24:1‐9

SCRIPTURE UNION DAILY GUIDE 12TH NOVEMBER 2022 OUTLINE

To start with, the high priest was so desperate to get rid of Paul that he hired the services of a professional lawyer. This was meant to signify the gravity of Paul’s offenses. Read vs.2‐3 again. Was this opening remark a sincere compliment as court courtesy, or an attempt to win favour from the Governor?

Consider the charges levelled against Paul in vs.5‐7 ‐ a troublemaker, who stirs up riots; a ringleader of a religious sect (a group that was therefore operating without government permission) and someone who had defiled the Temple in Jerusalem. Such charges were to show that Paul was not only an enemy of the Jews but of Rome too.

For his hidden motives not to be detected, he was quick to add that they wanted the governor to examine Paul for the truth to be revealed. It is amazing how God works! That was an opportunity created for Paul’s defence.
