• Q7: What truth is God revealing to me in this passage?
Scripture Union Daily Guide 12th February 2024 MESSAGE:
In the Jewish community, much like in Africa, every appearance of the negative is assumed to have an underlining cause; something must have gone wrong, or someone must have done something wrong. But notice the response of Jesus to the disciples’ dilemma in v.3. Rather than apportion blame or look for hidden cause, Jesus discusses the significance of the situation (see v.3b). While we do not blame people for everything or claim every sickness is to the glory of God, it is appropriate to pray for discernment to be able to understand how best to respond to things that are happening around us.
Jesus also used this occasion to explain both the nature and the urgency of His mission (vs.4-5).
The subsequent miracle (vs.6-7) is a demonstration of what Jesus said in the previous verses. The method of healing brought out the man’s faith and obedience. When his physical condition changed, his social status also changed (v.8). Notice how little the man knows about his healer. Are there not many like him, who receive God’s blessings daily but lack any reasonable knowledge of Him?
• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
