Scripture Union Daily Guide 11 September 2023 Outline:
Notice the disaster that happened to Zedekiah, and the torture that God’s people experienced because of ungodly leadership (25:1-7). The temple in Jerusalem, the royal palace and every important building of Jerusalem were set on fire and the city walls broken down (vs.9,10). What necessitated this total destruction of Jerusalem? Zedekiah chose to rebel against the king of Babylon (24:20b). Why did he decide or choose to rebel? Perhaps he was under the false delusion that the temple guaranteed the security of Jerusalem (see Jeremiah 7:4-8).
God does not delight in mere outward display of religiosity (see Jeremiah 7:9-11). We cannot afford to pretend to be worshipping God. True worship of God does not consist in the prayers and sacrifices we offer in His temple. True worship is willing obedience to God’s command and love for our fellow human beings. The account on the fall of Jerusalem should teach us to serve God in all faithfulness and sincerity, for God cannot be mocked. We shall reap what we sow.

Lord, save us from any false sense of security that can make us slack in true devotion and sincere worship of you, our living God.
