Scripture Union Daily Guide 11 February 2022 MESSAGE
The Spirit‐guide led the prophet on a grand tour of the renewed temple. It is very different from the ruins which the invading armies of Nebuchadnezzar left behind before carrying Ezekiel and others into exile. It is a temple which was never built in actual fact.
Through the prophet, however, God was sending a message of hope for the discouraged exiles, (v.4) through this reminder of what they lost, which He was able and willing to restore. Take note of two features of this new structure in particular. The location was on a high mountain. This indicates something higher than Mount Zion on which Solomon’s temple was built.
A series of steps lead upward and inward towards to the highest section, housing the Holy Place and the Most Holy Place (vs.6, 22, 26, 31. 34, 37, 49). The size is enormous, much bigger than any Israelite could possibly conceive. Just think of the outer wall, over one mile square, ten feet high and ten feet thick!
The temple of King Solomon was very impressive. This one is more than ten times bigger. In fact it was bigger than the old city of Jerusalem could contain!
