Scripture Union Daily Guide 11 August 2022 Devotional for Thursday

TOPIC: A Plea For Even‐Handed Justice

OPENING PRAYER: Lord, I pray that you lead me into your truth as I meditate on your word in Jesus name.

SCRIPTURE: Psalm 28:1 – 9

Scripture Union Daily Guide 11 August 2022 MESSAGE

The Psalmist prays that God would graciously hear and answer him. In his distress, he called upon Him (vs.1,2). Observe his faith in prayer: “O Lord, my rock?”, denoting his belief in God’s power (He is a rock) and his dependence upon that power.

The enemy seemed to be scheming evil against David (v.4). The prayer of David for God to punish the wicked is not because of personal bitterness or the desire for revenge. It is because they are the enemies of God and they disregard all He has done (vs.4‐5).

God’s hands went to work and met the need (v.5). Faith moves the hands of God on behalf of His people. In v.6, David encourages himself to hope in God for the perfecting of everything that concerned him.

This is a way of attaining peace. He concludes with a short but comprehensive prayer for the church of God (v.9). 1. That God would save them from their enemies and the dangers they were exposed to. 2. That God would bless them with all good, flowing from His favour, in fulfilment of His promise. 3. That he would shepherd and carry them forever.

Question(s) for Reflection
• Is there any prayer for me to remember?

Practice/Word Application
And So? Have you ever been as desperate as David (vs.1‐5)? What did you do in that situation?

• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Closing Prayer
• Lord, in my desperation, may I turn to you in prayer knowing that you will never leave me nor forsake me.
