TOPIC: Building According to Pattern

OPENING PRAYER: Help me to understand the exceeding greatness of your power as I read through this passage, dear Lord.

SCRIPTURE FOR TODAY: Exodus 25:23-40

QUESTIONS FOR TODAY
• Q 2: Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
• Q 3: Is there any command for me to obey?

God directs more items to be constructed, with detailed descriptions of design and appearance. Gold was precious, rare, and expensive. Yet God didn’t lower His standard: only the best was good enough. He expected His people to be willing and generous to provide for the holy structure where He would meet with them (v.22). Even then, Moses could only build according to God’s pattern shown on the mountain (v.40). Can God still expect such voluntary sacrifice, commitment and diligence from us today?

Vs.31-38 show that God was equally concerned about beauty, not just costs. God, who created all things in their vast array, in diversity and colour; also demands that our worship be beautiful and in harmony. The Bread of the Presence was to be before the Lord daily (v.30) indicating how God feeds us daily from His word and provides all we need. The lamp stand gave light to the entire structure and was uniquely designed. All parts were linked together, from stem to branches, cups, buds, etc. Just as believers are the light of the world (Matthew 5:14-16), yet derive light from and only reflect the Master, the True Light of the world (John 1:9; 1 John 1:7). Only by remaining connected to Him can we shine such light.

• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
