Topic: Jars of clay

Opening Prayer: Lord, I pray that you lead me into your truth as I meditate on your word in Jesus name.

Scripture: Acts 14:1-18

Question(s) for Reflection
• Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?

Despite the rebuff that Paul and Barnabas had experienced in previous cities, they continued to give the Jews the first opportunity to hear the Good News. Notice the different responses to their effective presentation of the gospel message (vs.1b-2). The Jews did not only reject the message, they tried to poison the minds of those who desired to believe. Observe what they apostles did through the help of God in spite of the opposition (v3). What determines when to plod on and when to move away from imminent danger (vs. 4 – 6)?

Dependence on the Holy Spirit for direction is the key to effective ministry. Paul and Barnabas acted on the crippled man’s faith and he was healed. Notice the response of the people of Lystra. Similar to the idolatrous practices in our continent, they completely misunderstood what God was doing among them. So, they set out to worship Paul and Barnabas, the ‘jars of clay’, rather than the source of power. Notice Paul and Barnabas’ clear and prompt rejection of any worship. Instead, they seized the opportunity to again present a simple gospel message relevant to their situation. Are we, like the Iconians, worshipping our human leaders today? And Pastors, do you say a clear ‘No’ to hero worship?

• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Closing Prayer
• All the glory must be to the Lord, For He is worthy of our praise! No man on earth should give glory to Himself All the glory must be to the Lord!

• Thank God for His love, making the way for the gospel train to keep moving on in spite of oppositions. Pray against laws in Europe, U.S.A. and Canada that are repressing Christians, under the false guise of freedom, diversity and inclusiveness.

Offer a prayer of faith in line with Psalm 3:8; 2 Sam. 19-20; 2 John
