• Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
Outline: On completion of the wall, Nehemiah prepared for an elaborate thanksgiving and dedication service in appreciation of the hand of his God with him (2:8,18). Not many people lived in the city. Maybe because they did not feel secured living in a city with broken wall. Notice what the leaders did to tackle the problem (v.1). In addition, some others volunteered to relocate to Jerusalem (v.2).
The problem in many countries in Africa is the opposite, many leaving their rural homes for urban centres. Is there anything the church can do to stop this trend? The Levites who were desperately needed for Temple worship were in short supply, only 284 compared with 1,192 Priests (11:18; cf. 12:27-29). This is what many churches and ministries are experiencing these days.
Is God calling you into full-time ministry or to volunteer as school visitor or camp officer? Notice the extent of purification carried out by Nehemiah. Even, the gates and the wall were purified (12:30)! All these shows how Nehemiah valued his God.
How do you prepare to enter God’s presence for worship? Effective praise springs from grateful hearts that are purified.
