TOPIC: The Greatest Mystery
BIBLE READING: Colossians 1:1-20
KEY VERSE: The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation – Colossians 1:15
Before Il became a Christian, I had heard about Jesus but struggled with His claims. How could He offer forgiveness for my sins when the Bible says only God can forgive sins? I discovered I wasn’t alone with this question. One Christian author suggests that for many non-Christians the “really staggering Christian claim is that Jesus of Nazareth was God made man… as truly and fully God as He was human”. And yet, this is the truth that makes salvation possible.
When Paul refers to Jesus as “the image of the invisible God” (Col. 1:15), he’s saying Jesus is completely and perfectly God-the maker and provider of all things in heaven and earth-but also fully human (vv.15-20).
Because of this truth, we can be confident that through Jesus’ death and resurrection, He has not only paid for our sins in full, but also given His perfection to those who trust Him. We-and all of creation-can be brought back to God (vv.20-22).
In an amazing act of love, our Father reveals Himself in and through the Bible, by the power of the Holy Spirit and through the life of Jesus. Those who trust Jesus are saved because He is God with us.
REFLECT: THE GREATEST MYSTERY OF THE GOSPEL-GOD MADE MAN–IS ALSO OUR GREATEST JOY.
