Topic: Sins Of Omission

Memorise
Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin. James 4:17

Read
James 4:13-17

  1. Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain:

  2. Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.

  3. For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.

  4. But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil.

  5. Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.

Today’s memory verse talks about the sin of omission. Some people trivialise this type of sin because they believe it isnt serious. Sadly, all sins of omission will confront believers on the last day. Is someone in need and you had the means to meet that need but ignored him/her? Is your sibling or classmate being punished for what he knows nothing about yet you know the truth but say nothing? Is your friend, roommate or colleague misbehaving in school and you fail to correct him or her because you feel youre minding your business? Is someone mishandling equipment in your church and you keep quiet because it doesnt belong to you? Is the kingdom of God suffering any loss because of your silence? A day will come when all the good things you could have done in various situations but failed to do will confront you. Make amends today before its too late.

Prayer Point
Make a list of the sins of omission in your life. Repent of them and make amends today.

Hymns: When we walk with the Lord

  1. When we walk with the Lord
    In the light of His word,
    What a glory He sheds on our way!
    While we do His good will,
    He abides with us still,
    And with all who
    will trust and obey.

CHORUS
Trust and obey!
For there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus,
but to trust and obey.

  1. Not a shadow can rise,
    Not a cloud in the skies,
    But His smile quickly drives it away;
    Not a doubt nor a fear,
    Not a sigh nor a tear,
    Can abide while
    we trust and obey.

  2. Not a burden we bear,
    Not a sorrow we share,
    But our toil He doth richly repay;
    Not a grief nor a loss,
    Not a frown nor a cross,
    But is blest if we trust and
    obey.

  3. But we never can prove
    The delights of His love,
    Until all on the altar we lay,
    For the favour He shows,
    For the joy He bestows,
    Are for them who will trust
    and obey.

  4. Then in fellowship sweet
    We will sit at His feet,
    Or we’ll walk by His side in
    the way;
    What He says we will do,
    Where He sends we will go;
    Never fear, only trust and
    obey.
