TOPIC:Â The Spirit of Love(OFM Rhema For Living 3 April 2023)
DAILY BIBLE READING: 2 Samuel 7-9
TEXT: “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind ” 2 Tim. 1 :7.
It is of importance that you come to understand as a believer that the Jesus kind of love cannot be exhibited outside the Spirit of God. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of love; He is the one responsible for any genuine act of love done by an individual. Without the help of the Holy Spirit in the area of love, it is obvious that the believer can certainly not be able to carry out Jesus order on the matter of love.
Under the law, they were told to love their neighbours as themselves: But that compared to Jesus new commandment is nominal. He commanded them to love one another as He had loved them, not as they love themselves.
The difference here is that the love they had for themselves was nothing compared to Jesus love for them, and they were to love their neighbor only to the degree that they loved themselves.
But now it is no longer in that manner, but rather as He (Jesus) loves us. It is obvious that the Jesus kind of love can be generated by the Holy Spirit. Even Jesus ascribed all His works to have been direct handiwork of the Holy Spirit that was in Him, and so also in us. “And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.” Romans 5:5.
We are therefore to rely on the Holy Spirit and express the love of God in us.
PRAYER: My Father! My Father! As I begin to pray, by your Holy Spirit, empower me to live the love life.
