TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. – Revelation 3:20
GoodNews Daily Devotional 22 February 2022 MESSAGE
I want you to notice something very profound in today’s scripture. This is the Lord
speaking, and He is saying that He stands at the door of your heart and knocks. And He
does not stop there. He not only knocks, but he also waits for you to open the door. Only then does He come in. He will never force His way into your life.
Now, the Lord Jesus is the Creator of the universe and everything in it, including your heart. If He would take the time to knock and wait to be allowed into your heart, that is an indication of the value He places on the access to your heart. You also should place value on the access to your heart. Take great care who you allow into your heart, because whoever is in your heart, commands everything in your life. Your heart does not have a revolving door.
In fact, that access is so valuable that the door of your heart ought to be locked. Once you let someone inside who does not belong there, it is difficult to get them back out. And there is another part of the verse that is often overlooked. The Lord says, if you allow Me in, “I will sup with him and he with me.” The word ‘sup’ refers to a feast.
He is showing you that His prosperity becomes your prosperity. That then means that whoever you allow into your heart also has access to your prosperity. Therefore, you would be wise to only allow people – especially friends – who can add value to your life financially and spiritually. If someone is not on an upward trajectory, they cannot be a friend.
So, make sure the door to your heart stays locked, and watch out for distractions.
