TOPIC: Jesus Saves
TEXT: John 5: 1-9(NKJV)
5:1. After this there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
5:2. Now there is in Jerusalem by the Sheep [Gate] a pool, which is called in Hebrew, Bethesda, having five porches.
5:3. In these lay a great multitude of sick people, blind, lame, paralyzed, waiting for the moving of the water.
5:4. For an angel went down at a certain time into the pool and stirred up the water; then whoever stepped in first, after the stirring of the water, was made well of whatever disease he had.
5:5. Now a certain man was there who had an infirmity thirty-eight years.
5:6. When Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he already had been [in that condition] a long time, He said to him, “Do you want to be made well?”
5:7. The sick man answered Him, “Sir, I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up; but while I am coming, another steps down before me.”
5:8. Jesus said to him, “Rise, take up your bed and walk.”
5:9. And immediately the man was made well, took up his bed, and walked. And that day was the Sabbath.
STUDY: In our text for today, we see Jesus going to the Bethesda pool in Jerusalem. In the vicinity of the pool lay many people with different health challenges, waiting for the moving of the water by an angel, in order to be healed as the first entrant into the troubled water. When Jesus saw a man who had been sick for 38 years lying there, He asked him if he wanted to get well. After the man complained that he had nobody to help him enter the pool at the right time, Jesus commanded him to rise up, take his bed and walk. The man was healed immediately and he took his bed and went away on that Sabbath day.
Jesus showed love, care and concern to the sick man although he could not answer His question correctly. Jesus heals because He was anointed by God to do good and to heal all who are oppressed by the devil (Acts 10: 38). Do you have a spiritual or physical sickness? Jesus can heal you today! He can set you free from that sickness or bondage. Call on Him today and receive your healing (Jer. 33: 3).
PRAYER: Abba Father, heal me spiritually, physically, emotionally and financially in Jesus’ name.
THOUGHT FOR TODAY: I am seated in the heavens and My kingdom reigns over all. Psalms 103:19
